When Are Your Staff Most Productive

Understanding the needs of your staff is very difficult. Everyone is different and your staff will be motivated by different things. It’s important to remember that what works for one person doesn’t work for everyone. However, there are a few times when people are more likely to be working harder and deliver better work. If you try and take on board the following things then you can make sure your staff have what they need to work to their best. Here are the times when your staff are likely to be the most productive.

 

When They Have Targets

As soon as you set targets you will find that staff start to achieve more throughout the month. If you give them rewards for achieving their targets then they will be more likely to work harder, because they get something for all their hard work.

 

When They Enjoy Their Job

Staff are most productive when they are satisfied with their job. If they enjoy work and like coming into the office everyday then they will produce better results for you. Try and find out if your staff are happy and if not how you can help them to get back on track. Quarterly staff surveys are good way to get constructive feedback. Keep them anonymous and staff will be more open about how you can improve.

 

When They Feel Part Of A Team

If you get get your team to bond and make every staff member feel like an important team then they will probably be more productive. Your staff will work harder if they have a good working relationship with the rest of the team. You could organise team building days and if all goes well you will probably find that staff are more productive after a bit of team bonding.

 

When They Can Work To Their Strengths

Everyone has different strengths and times when they are more productive. Some people get the most work done early in the morning before other staff come in to work. Others struggle in the mornings and work better late into the evening. Giving your staff the opportunity to work to their strength with result in a greater workload being delivered. For example, you might see productivity increasing after allowing your staff to work flexible hours, because they can work to their strengths. Moreover, some staff work better as part of a team, whilst others prefer to switch off and get to work on their own. Arrange one to one meetings with each member of staff to discuss how you can work to their strengths.

 

After They Get Recognition

If staff don’t get the recognition they deserve they are unlikely to work hard for you. You will see their productivity shoot up shortly after they get praise or recognition for working hard. Put a system in place to make sure that over achieving staff get recognised. This includes organising things like employee of the month, weekly team meetings and one to one feedback.

 

When They Get Regular Breaks

Working your staff into the ground may seem like the best way to get work done, when in reality it could be detrimental to your staff. Most people are more productive when they are allowed to have regular breaks. If staff are skipping their lunch break every day they won’t be happy and they probably won’t be very productive. Give staff the freedom to take breaks when they need to, as long as they get their work done.
