Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't GWT Designer proprietary? If I can only download a trial version of GWT Designer from Instantiations and later need to purchase it in order to use this tutorial, does this offer me much of anything for free? Maybe it's okay to post tutorials on pay-for software, but I find the title to be misleading.

Yes, GWT Designer is proprietary. But you can activate and use it for free 14 days, so you can use this tutorial. In any case, it will let you to taste how to use GWT in easy way. Later, if you will like GWT and GWT Designer, you can purchase it.

Well, I wouldn't say you can "purchase" it - lease it is more like it. You purchase a 1, 2 or 3 year subscription. If you don't renew after that time, the product will cease to work.

I think you can purchase it outright as part of the WindowBuilderPro toolkit. Price is around $299.
