We've all got them, that core set of tools that seem to get put on every computer we set up. After asking around and combining the results from several software developers, here's a list of the most common and must-have free Windows tools for software developers.

Great post! Very interested.
I began using Process Explorer (http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/default.aspx) reading the book "C# 2008 and 2005 Threaded programming", by G. Hillar, Packt Publishing - http://www.packtpub.com/beginners-guide-for-C-sharp-2008-and-2005-threaded-programming
Let me add another very important tool, also recommended in this book: CPU-Z (http://www.cpuid.com/cpuz.php), it allows you to detect the number of cores and the micro-architecture of a CPU.

No doubt CPU-Z should be in the list!

Oh yeah, I totally agree. I've used CPU-Z dozens of times. It's a great piece of software.

When you need to work, you must use both Windows & Linux. You know that.
I love Linux, but I have to use both operating systems. Life is life! I'm sorry, but your comment is out of context and I must vote - :-)

I *must*? Weird; I don't use Windows anywhere I work.
