So... it's not really about the post itself, it's that you don't like the language. Good stuff. Way to be constructive.
I'm voting this down because this list is horrid. There a few good things on there (Perlmonks, Perl Design Patterns, CPAN) but the bulk of the list is CRUD. Matt's Script archive (BAD idea)? Random collections of Tuturials that were old 5 years ago? NOT a good list place to start for a newbie Perl developer. Read the perldocs ( I mean it, read them), go to perlmonks.org, go to use.perl.org, go to perl.com, buy some O'Reilly books. Many of the sites listed will lead you into bad programming practices. How would a newbie know any better?

Useless. You can replace Perl with Python or Ruby easily.

I should have quoted the part. Oops.
"Even in this day-and-age of Java and Ajax, Perl still has a role to play in the world of coding."
Remove Perl and insert Python or Ruby. It doesn't say much.

+1 on the Matts Script Archive comment - even the site itself recommends a better alternative (though it _does_ hide that recommendation pretty well):
http://www.scriptarchive.com/nms.html

My apologies then omouse. I guess I'm a little sensitive about language bashing and I misinterpreted your comment.

I'm no fan of Perl though, too much magic and inconsistency. I prefer a smaller core language that lets you do advanced things with it (see Scheme).
