It’s no secret that Microsoft has been unhappy with the open source software movement for a long time. Ever since Eric Raymond posted the first Halloween document in 1988, it’s been clear that the software giant considers such software a threat to its monopoly. Microsoft’s latest salvo claims that open source software violates 235 of its patents.

its funny how some näive people at the top, never seem to know when to stop.

This is just like Bush's war on Terrorism. Both will never end, because they are fighting against an enemy which doesn't exist, created by the figments of their imagination. In the end, it will lead to their own downfall.

so now wanting to protect your investment from people stealing it is a "war on open source"?

Whether they're right or wrong hardly matters, they see their investment in danger and act the same way they'd do if it were anyone else stealing their inventions.

Under the law they have a right (and possibly an obligation) to act on such suspicions so they do.
