When I first saw the headline Flash Sucks on digg I was really perturbed … Flash is a tool, and how people use it is what has the possibility to make it “suck” … After reading the article, I realize I was a little too hasty in not agreeing, it’s pretty well written and some really REALLY good points, and probably worthwhile for a good number of people who are going to use Flash.

Bah. It's a mixed bag. Flash technology rawks. I think the people who use it rawk. I think the tools suck. The idea of forcing you to build on a timeline sucks. And Flex being such a dang expensive alternative to timeline-oriented Flash development sucks. I also think binary, more or less proprietary serialization of .swf files sucks; this stuff should be XML-driven. I think Silverlight is a better step, but I've got my eye on HTML 5's Canvas ... inline line art markup, w00t ..

The technology itself is great, but using proprietary components for the web really sucks.

I think at certain point one has to say enough is enough. A tool does not discourage (or worse, encourage) people's bad behavior sucks

Flash SUCKS because it is a closed proprietary tool that a great portion of the world finds overpriced and unescessary. Proprietary is anti www.

Proprietary sucks ... there is no arguing that and while I don't agree with it I can see how a business would can make money from it ... after all that's what allot of people are after ...

But I really feel ... it's people who choose to use it and not in a meaningful way is where it suffers.
