Some ineffective development practices have been chosen so often, by so many people, with such predictable, bad results that they deserve to be called "classic mistakes." Most of the mistakes have a seductive appeal.

OMG, the latest project I'm working on exhibits just about all of the classic "people mistakes" this guy enumerates. My manager will get a kick out of this...

A word of advice from a more experienced developer: You may be surprised if you show this to your manager; most likely, it will be you who will get the 'kick' out of it.

Managers get to be managers by diverting blame for failures to others while taking credit for every success they can.
The moment something goes wrong seriously enough that he needs a black sheep you're a natural target.

This is very well thought out and reasonably thorough, unlike many lists submitted here of late.

Pickup and read the entire book that this excerpt came from and get even more wisdom. "Rapid Development" is a very easy read with short chapters on specific issues. Read it and keep going back to it for reference.

Lordy, I'm wondering how long it'll take for this to be the most voted for post.

This guy is really good! Awesome observations. Must read for all developers working in a team ;)
