I attended the official launch party for Adobe AIR (Pacific Region) today and as much as the tech is impressive, I walked away with one strong observation: this is a user base war.

Adobe AIR and Silverlight are not competitors. Like apples and oranges.

Getting a bit tired of this... silverlight is a competitor of flash/flex.. not AIR...

Hi James and tomb, I heard about that.. but can you please tell me what AIR is not a competitor of SL? What is AIR? When I read from Adobe site, I found this below.
"Adobe AIR is a cross-operating system runtime that enables web developers to use their existing web development skills, code and tools to build and deploy rich web applications and content to the desktop.
Adobe AIR has a rich set of features, with support for building applications using HTML, JavaScript, Flex and Flash."
so, it seems like ASP.NET + SL or SL only..

I'm searching the info about AIR. I found that AIR allows web developers to leverage on their existing skills in HTML,Javascript etc., and create applications targeted specifically for desktop.
So, is it like WPF browser applications? so, AIR is the competitor of WPF browser app?

In short - AIR allows you to create desktop applications in Flex.
Michael Sync replied ago:
thks. limz. so, I think AIR is like WPF browser application...

Article's author shouldn't have made mistake comparing AIR to Silverlight, but comments are quite worthwhile.
