This is part 1 in what will be a long series (ca. 30 parts written so far) about writing a small compiler in Ruby "bottom up", in other words starting with the code generator, rather than the more conventional approach of starting with the parser. The focus is not so much on Ruby as it is on how to build a code generator and how to implement low level features of a language in the simplest possible way.
