So, exactly how bad are tables for website design? The short answer: Pretty bad. We’ve scoured the Internet to create the definitive list illustrating why CSS is superior to tables. You think you know, but you have no idea.

nsoonhui - Just curious to know what you didn't like about the article?

Hardly a balanced view of the CSS vs. Table debate. And they don't even look into the idea of combining them (e.g. using classes in TDs).
What's the big news here, that you should not use "font" tag?

Obviously you didn't read the article.

Does this still need to be proven?

Hi c-ovi -
Considering the fact that there are still far too many websites using table-based layouts, the point obviously hasn't been communicated to everyone...yet.
We're strong advocates and believers in CSS for all of the reasons mentioned in the article, and honestly just because we believe that it is important that like anything else, our web technology evolves. Unfortunately, using tables for a website is an example of web technology regressing, or at a standstill, rather than progressing.
Until we see more sites out there complying with web-standards and using CSS-based layouts, we'll continue to beat the CSS drums and do all that we can to educate the uninformed.
Thanks and have a nice day!

believe me table sucks .....div rocks....

phpexpert - we had to give you an "ARROW UP" for that one :)
On the simplest level, you are correct!

ONE overriding reason why Tables are Superior to CSS in Website Design
IE6 which is what most people use so we're stuck with it. :(
chromaticsites replied ago:
Wrong - IE6 can be formatted to look exactly the same in Firefox and any other browser. Sure, there might be a few hacks, but it certainly isn't too difficult if you're willing to do a little research.
Mark Thomas replied ago:
This post had about 3 reasons to use CSS over tables, and nothing most web designers don't already know.
@sproketboy Have you looked at your weblogs lately? IE7 is more popular than IE6.
