Learning to write code is not that hard. With a book, Google, and a little free time just about anyone can hack something together. However, to become a good software developer you need a passion to constantly and continually learn.

I only partially agree with #4m "UI is more important than code". Yeah, UI is important, but if you have a pretty application that is slow and unreliable, people will still consider it crap. You need both, though I suppose its arguable that most apps today have more room to improve in the UI side of things.
