I sort of hope that Silverlight is ActiveX 2.0. If that's the business plan, then ActiveX should disappear within a few years, being replaced by an undeniably superior (faster and more secure) technology. Despite the fact that Silverlight never seems to work right, I think it really is an interesting bit of hackery and a worthy competitor to Flash. Of course, it doesn't stand a chance in the long run, but it's good to see the competition play out.
