In 2007, Facebook announced the Facebook Platform, which allowed developers to create applications for Facebook. Things started going down hill shortly after.
Voted down because the article holds facebook (the platform) responsible for the crap put out by application developers. The fact is that Facebook has done a decent job of providing a general api that developers can plug into. There has to be some data sharing between an application and profile information, but not necessarily. There are a few apps that don't require sharing of data. So, basically, this article doesn't appropriately portion out the blame.
