Every now and then we read on DotNetKicks and on other sites, a blogger explaining how to become a great software developer, or a post listing the properties required from a good engineer. Many of these posts lack a certain amount of credibility: somehow the writers always seem to find within themselves the qualities required from the skilled professional.

I agree with this person's premise the he doesn't necessarily possess the traits of a great software developer and with many of the ways he mentions for obtaining those traits.
However, I'm voting it down because clearly a mark of a great software developer is that he knows enough not to get involved with any Microsoft-sponsored project claiming to be "open source".
