Gunther Lenz, Microsoft ISV Architect Evangelist, introduces Software Factories from the perspective of a small to medium size software development team. He discusses the motivation for Software Factories, the basic building blocks, and how Software Factories can be realized. Furthermore, Gunther shows the potential benefits this approach has for smaller software development projects. The article is based on the experiences described in his co-authored book Practical Software Factories in .NET, and his work with Software Factories in industry projects.

Some good points but enough selling tools, sounds more like pushing tools to generate code.

The article is not so much about pushing, or even selling tools. What it is about is that we work on a very low abstraction level. We are still working with text based programming, not too much different from what we did 20 years ago. But with the explosion of Software, the demand for higher quality, and shortage of resources we are looking to learn from other industries to evolve Ssoftware development to the next maturity level.....
