Today, Opera Software announces record download figures. In the five days following its launch on June 12, 2008, Opera 9.5 achieved 4.7 million downloads. Opera also reports that the number of people using its browser has more than doubled since Opera 9.0 debuted in 2006. Each month more than 20 million people use Opera to access the Web from their computers and more than 12 million use Opera Mini each month on their mobile phones.

Not bad. Firefox just reached 6.5mil downloads in less than a day. It could reach 7 when the 24hrs are over.

When it comes to plain browsing Opera beats other browsers just like that. And now they are working on cutting edge developer tools also. This talk about the number of downloads in a day is a sheer hype. I too like Firefox for its various features, but Opera is the one for normal browsing which is like 75-85% of the time of a day. It is just cool.
