I would also be really happy if we could exclude some tags to create a personalized feed :-)

It seems, that adding 'tag' in the url also works fine. For example "http://www.dzone.com/links/feed/frontpage/rss.xml?tag=java" feeds only the java-connected articles.

The "tag" param only seems to work for one category at a time. What I'd really like, personally, is a way to exclude the categories I'm not interested in.

I expected more powerful tool =( I want to filter RSS feed by specified keywords :'(

A commenter on my blog noted that he had some success filtering the RSS feed by using Yahoo! Pipes. I'm not sure if that would work for your situation, but it may be worth a try.
