Good, basic article. The author misses a key point, IMO: learning Unix tools (and using Cygwin) allows you to develop a powerful mental toolbox that can be applied across 99% of the OS's with which we work.

That is true, I did not emphasize that. There will be plenty of other articles in this series to do that though ;)
