But it does not change anything, Yeah they are working on Linux and Solaris but Linux is second class for JavaFX, Windows and Mac are the first ones.

i doubt they are 2nd class citizens. stop always looking for the -ve. they are sun and they have a history of providing 1st class support in Java for Solaris at least. And in the last 4-5 yrs, the java support for Linux has been excellent too.

they say in the blog that they are building the Linux and Solaris versions nightly with the Windows/Mac ones. I bet the problem is just down to codecs, and will be resolved shortly. could you imagine them not being able to run JavaFX on opensolaris?

They will not provide 64bit plugin for Java (that effects JavaFX too) for Solaris, so I politely disagree that Solaris get's 1'st class support. And Linux only gets 64bit support early next year.

Well, at least they're open about it, which is a plus. I look forward to checking it out on Ubuntu once it arrives to see if it lives up to the hype.

Yea it sucks that JavaFX support on Linux is not there day one, but for those of us who actually work with Linux, it is more of a codecs thing than anything else.
JavaFX is already running on Linux, except for the multimedia parts.

Never mind 64 bit Solaris what about 64 bit Windows? there's a lot more desktops using the latter.

Good point. OEMs are shipping desktops and laptops with Vista x64 on them.

I've been compiling and running JavaFX SDK 1.0 programs from the command line on a Windows Vista 64 bit machine (Sony Vaio to be exact) without problems. Haven't tried Netbeans 6.5 on that particular machine yet.

Yes, we installed the 32bit JDK and media playback is fine.
