"Which programming language you learn and use does not matter. Do not get sucked into the religion surrounding programing languages as that will only blind you to their true purpose of being your tool for doing interesting things."
This is a damn good advice!

For example , they always talk about Scala but never about Traits in it.

Great words of wisdom and I've been doing this professionally for 14 years, I still love it. I do however hate the syntax of objective-c and python. :)

I guess I found that post to be pretty terrible. Kinda meanders and on one hand programming is boring, but at the end he says it pretty cool. Then this comment really threw me off, maybe someone can help me understand what he is trying to say:
"Programming as a profession is only moderately interesting. It can be a good job, but if you want to make about the same money and be happier, you could actually just go run a fast food joint. You are much better off using code as your secret weapon in another profession."
Right off hand I would hate running a restaurant? Really outside of being a stock broker, I don't think I could be happier in any other profession.

Or is he really getting the short end of the stick salary wise. Coming out of college, I think you will find more careers start out lower than a software engineer, but then again I graduated in 1998.
