Recently there has been some buzz as to what Microsoft has up their sleeves for Windows 7, the next version of Windows after the somewhat botched Vista release. Some of the features seem to be mostly evolutionary from those of Vista. Most of the features, though, have yet to be announced. So, what should Microsoft focus on after they get Windows 7 out the door?

Wow I wish I knew why anyone would vote this down. It was well written, came from a seemingly educated author and was an interesting read.

FWIW: DZone, I think you should get rid of "vote down", or force explanation for voting down. Without explanation, it seems to just tool to facilitate the My Favourite Technology popularity contest. Instead of getting votes on the quality of the article, you're running a massive survey of preferred technologies.

The reason why I voted it down was because it was basically a wish list of what everyone else is saying. It offers no real reason why we should want the things in the list, i.e. why do we want to get rid of backwards compatibility in Windows '8', why throw out win32, why force an upgrade to 64-bit, why change to a modular architecture?

A better article/blog post would take each of these points individually and make an argument towards why (or why we wouldn't) want to take what is a radically new approach.

Hint: it's a social site, users decide what gets promoted or buried and they can do it for any reason they want
