After the tremendous success of social news sites, some time has passed seeing only repeats of the same pattern. I just stumbled upon something that looks like a fresh new idea – kungle news Instead of relying only on news submitted by users, kungle actively scans many sources and calculates trend scores. Behind the scenes some kind of AI classifies the knews into categories and calculates trend scores. For all news junkies like me – who have to be the at least 5 minutes ahead of the rest of the world, this is a very welcome addition. Being a Scala enthusiast, the fact that kungle is running on lift web made this even more attractive to me. The developers Blog gives some interesting insight into the technology behind kungle. It is still beta but I will definitely follow its further development.
