Derby is a relational database management system written in Java. It can be embedded or work in server mode. Newest version brings many new performance, security and administration features.

Derby 10.3 was actually released over two weeks ago. It'd be nice if this were an article talking about what's new in 10.3, or a more detailed review, but just linking to the downloads page is fairly useless.

Apache Derby 10.3.1.4 has been released on 10th of August. Earlier there was only Release Candidate available. It is the first stable version of Derby 10.3 In fact, when I was posting this link here, there was no official info about 10.3 on the Official Apache Derby website.
Additional pieces of information concerning newest version are available when you simply click on this release download link. I have updated the story title link to point to that site directly.
