I hate to vote this down, but this reads more like the author's semi-structured notes than research that would be useful to the casual reader. It doesn't sound like the author really had any methodology or reason behind setting some of these values, other than trial and error...

Agreed. The vast majority of tutorials on the web show at least some insight and reasoning behind the optimisations, but not this 'article'
