When you think programming languages and Linux, the languages that tend to come to mind are C, C++, Perl, PHP, Python and, lately, Ruby. But, Java probably doesn't enter your mind at all -- that's because until recently Java was a proprietary language.

Java has not yet been 'liberated'. Only the compiler and VM have been made GPL so far (out of the stuff in the JSE).

Uh.... maybe its just my mind coming from the linux SERVER world, but... JBoss, Tomcat, Struts, Spring, EJB, JSP, JSF... These are all Java, and they run very well on Linux.
