This past week, my colleagues and I have been researching Ajax Frameworks. We're working on a project that's following SOFEA-style architecture principles and we want the best framework for our needs. I'm writing this post to see 1) if you, the community, agree with our selection process and 2) to learn about your experiences with the frameworks we're evaluating. Below is the process we're following to make our choice.

Looks like a very detailed review process, especially considering you're making a spike in all choices. How do you get the resources and the time ... ? ;)
Some things strikes me, first of all who're doing the spikes - and how well do they know the frameworks...?
If some crappy dude is creating a spike in the "best" framework, then it'll be dismissed because of that the dev. doing the spike was a junior, or...?
Another thing that strikes me is the lack of frameworks building on TOP of GWT. Sure I can understand that you're not using Ra-Ajax since you're obviously on Java (I assume) but why don't you test ExtGWT or SmartGWT when you're testing GWT and ExtJS anyways...?

As far as "finding the time", my team is doing this analysis for a client, so we're being paid to do the work. All developers are Senior Java Engineers and some of the best guys I've ever worked with. I'm not worry about "some crappy dude" in this scenario.

RE: Frameworks on top of GWT
Yes, we're certainly looking at Ext GWT and SmartGWT. The guy doing the GWT prototype has been very impressed with SmartGWT.
