The biggest rival for Microsoft's next-generation Silverlight Web technology will be JavaScript, not Adobe's ubiquitous Flash, according to experts speaking at Microsoft's Tech.Ed conference in Sydney this week.

ActionScript3 already runs on more Internet surfing browsers than IE JavaScript.
So ironically, the Adobe Flash Player is effectively the most ubiquitous "defacto standard" for the Internet. The so-called web standards of HTML, CSS, DOM, and JavaScript have in reality never been very standard at all.
