It was announced recently that closures would be added JDK 7. Mark Reinhold made the announcement at the Devoxx conference. DZone has added some more updates to the story.

How will this affect programmer's productivity? It should even improve it. Or if you don't want them, just ignore them.

Look beyond Java: why not, for new projects (although it might affect productivity until programmers master the new language...). Hard to do for legacy project. At work we have a project with some millions of lines of code. We progressively integrated picked up features of Java 5 (generics, assertions, some annotations) but I don't see us converting the whole code to Scala!
