I started out my web programming 'career' with Rails, and I have since moved over to using Django. I'll try to list some constructive reasons why the 'pragmatic' (buzzword!) developer would chose Django over Rails.

This is a year old, and some of the things he says about Rails aren't true. (Perhaps they were true a year ago, I wouldn't know). There's room for both Rails and Django.

I don't dislike Django, on the contrary, I love it! I just interviewed Adrian Holovaty (akitaonrails.com) because of that and I am willing to try to port some of the Django niceties over to Rails (if I can manage to find some free time). As Mark said, there's room for both. This article is not exactly 'constructive' it is the author's personal opinions and nothing more. You should see the excellent PHP Symfony framework: it mixes and matches features from both Rails and Django and it is great because of that.

The article may be old but so is the argument. I think its a great read for both Django and Rails developers just to get an understanding of the other side.

I liked it so much I added it to my blog, it will be sucked into the Django community forum shortly.
