Continuous Integration as a concept was being pioneered by CruiseControl. Later on that has been followed up by a quite a few CI servers, some of them are AntHill, LuntBuild, Continuum and Hudson, just to name a few well received open source CI servers. Especially, I was very impressed with Hudson in terms of installation and administration ease-of-use. I hope somebody publishes a list of items that are unique to BuildForge which makes it worth buying as opposed so many of these time tested open source solutions.
