I really don't see where that has anything to do with the article. The point is that Sun Java open source==good, then why hold back other open source implementations that don't derive from that code base? How is that good?

I think you are misreading me. My point is exactly that being open source, is the only major feature that Sun's Java can claim over Microsoft's C#. If Sun allows other implementations, they will have nothing left. It's a shame it's come to this, Apache has done so much good for Java and Sun over the years. In other words, one must question Sun's true devotion to open source and see this aspect more as theory/marketing than reality.
