Some good tips here! Glad you mentioned there being no standard display size and that you used a reasonable example. Although I'd suggest using a percentage instead of a fixed value so it displays on mobile devices well. Also I'd of mentioned the box-shadow effect as it can make a lot of things look rather nice. :D
