Thoughts about using language-oriented programming for very specific domain applications. Is this a new programming paradigm or is this just a best practice?

No this is not new at all. In the SICP books/lectures it is talked about early on, only with the unsexy name of "metasyntactic programming". It is what LISP shines at.

DSLs are not a "new programming paradigm" (http://www.usenix.org/events/bytopic/dsl.html). Although the blogger is a "big fan of domain-specific programming languages" he doesn't mention the major challenge with respect to DSLs: designing a DSL is hard. Very hard.
