People ask me, "How can I get our employees to be passionate about the company?" Wrong question. Passion for our employer, manager, current job? Irrelevant. Passion for our profession and the kind of work we do? Crucial. I don't need employees with a passion for FOO. I want those with a passion for the work they're doing.

Wow, AMEN, brutha!
Plus, they usually translate passion for the company as being excited about getting screwed over by some ass VP who wants to ship your job overseas or some such!

You describe passion for the company as working long hours and being stumm
If that's your corporate experience then I agree there's no reason for it.
The question is why someone would be passionate?
I for one happily give up on some extra earnings if I'm employed by a company that
a) cares for me as an employee
b) allows or even encourages me to give my opinion - however critical
c) gives me the opportunity to grow in my profession
I'm passionate about what I'm doing - AND I care about who I'm doing it for!
