Its a lot stuff now there. More than anybody who has another things to do but read dzone (or just anything else to read) can read (well, to be honest it takes some time even to read headlines). So, there are two ways to go:
a. increase "popularity limit", 'cause it seems to be +3 votes now and there is a lot of crap in there
b. is there any way we can have another rss with increased votes up-down limit?
well, and ofcourse there is always a solution, and rss contains votes up/down counts, so i can just write a little script to wrap rss. but i just want to ask first...

This would be better sent via the 'Send feedback' link on the top left (IMO)

Agreed, but at the same time, this would be a pretty handle post to link to in the feedback if it gets lots of votes :)

oh, i've sent a dozen of "feedback". never got answer. besides, i want to know how dzone users feel about it.

Hi Dmitry. We know there's too much stuff in the frontpage now, and same with the queue. No-one likes everything in there at any one time :) The queue needs more people to be aware of it and vote, which improves the selection of items and lets us increase the minimum score. We also have some neat things planned with only showing things based on your preferences, which should pair things down even more.

well. i would suggest not only to separate it by categories but also by "level". Perosnally i'm not interested in beginners howto's and "manual articles" (like "you guys could read it in manual, but i've got a blog and i have to write something here, so behold: how to define a variable!").
I would even read upcoming.
And would be awesome to have domain blacklists - there are a lot of spam now.

Alternately, you could remove voting altogether and use an aggregation of views and clicks to rank stories, considering how we're all programmers here and understand the virtue of laziness. I know I read a lot of stories here, but I honestly don't care about voting, and the numbers show I'm far from the minority. I don't think forcing or cajoling us to do so is really going to help.
I understand this is a huge swerve on what DZone has already been built up to be, but I think it helps to add unorthodox ideas into the mix.

bad idea

The more users vote, the more you can increase the minimum score. However, you are suggesting to increase the minimum score based on contributions. This can result in few posts making it to the front page, and less users visiting the site.
The solution, like matt said, is to allow users filter content based on preferences, such as categories.

I agree with the fact that quality of posts have decreased which make to popular link. :)
But thats due to dzone's penetration to more people.
People who want to see filtered posts can always use tags and extract what they need from posts; writing a script to do this will not be big but first we need to decide what actually we want to achieve out of it and if at all we need to change things than it should be for masses. :)

Thank you for pipe idea. But i'm thinking of little more. I was thinking and realized that i dont read dzone like all day, but once a day. So i'm going to write a little thing for rss that will bring me it once a day, but limited by some number, say - 50 "most popular" links per day.

For RSS feed readers, you can use the following solution to only see the top posts for the week:

Your comment and down vote made no sense, so I'll return the favor in spades.
