Sun CEO, Jonathan Schwartz, recently said, "we're just going to take the 'J' off the 'JVM' and just make it a 'VM'." What does that mean? Here several of the DZone leaders share their views, from their various backgrounds, which range across a variety of programming interests and specializations.

Why not simply call it the SVM? Sun VM?
Just VM is cool in a way, but it's also too general if you'd ask me.

Let's see, what will this do to their stock ticker symbol? They just dropped SUN and went to JAVA - now they will have to drop JAVA and go to VM. Maybe it would just be easier to adopt a symbol like Prince did that means whatever they want it to mean ;-)

They aren't dropping Java, maybe they'll just have to change their symbol to "AVA" ;)

Sun is schizoid in naming. They'd do a lot better if they just left things alone.
Every damn release, they've got to change the name of the dev tools. It's the JDK, no, the Java SDK, ok, JDK again. But, EE will be an SDK. Java 1.2 is Java2.
They can't even maintain consistency in the online location of the javadocs.
I like Java but, I hate Sun
