I’m on the road to prepare my example for the E4 talk I’m delivering on the Eclipse-Developers-Day in Karlsruhe and I have to say that in my eyes E4 is going to open up a new world for Eclipse-RCP-Developers.

Before starting, I just want to make clear that I am not a member of the OSGi Alliance nor a participant of any EG. I just happen to use OSGi since Eclipse started to investigate OSGi as their componentization model in its core. Of course, I am following the dispute between OSGi and Jigsaw since project Jigsaw was announced and I have to admit, that I was and am not happy with the approach Sun was taking not using a JSR and hoping to establish a modularization standard beyond the JVM

In this article I will explain how to create a custom widget that displays a popup notification dialog in the bottom right corner of your screen (usually above the toolbar on Windows). Here’s what it will look like when we’re done: We could custom draw everything which would allow us more control over the widget, but for the sake of this article lets stick to using basic SWT components inside a normal Shell that we will make a bit prettier than your typical SWT Shell.
