Lately, I’ve started using AngularJS instead of Knockout. Knockout.js is very popular in the .NET world, is very easy to use, and meshes well with .NET devs used to the MVVM style of development. I highly recommend it. But, yeah, it’s fair to say that I’m being a little fickle in deciding to switch. SignalR is the latest in a long string of new technologies pouring out from the ASP.NET team recently, when Microsoft rolled out version 1.0 of SignalR when Visual Studio Update 2 was announced.  In a nutshell, SignalR is technology for .NET that allows you to build real time, connected Web applications. Connected in the sense that you can build Web applications that can send and receive and broadcast data in real time. The canonical example of a 'connected' application is a chat application where a client can broadcast messages to all other connected clients. While that's pretty cool in and of itself, that only begins to scratch the surface of what's possible with SignalR as you can communicate in a wide variety of ways between client and server and between all clients to push data around.

Firstly, hard-coding configuration conflates config and code. Although this may not cause much pain in a very simple context, as the application and infrastructure grow this anti-pattern will make configuration increasingly complex and error prone.

There’s a recent blog entry on the ArtLogic.com site about learning Angular. One aspect of it resonates with me: “Quit jQuery for a While” It’s true. You could well be used to having ‘on click’ equivalent event that mutate the DOM, and think that you could well mutate Angular models instead. That’s the path to more JavaScript than you need, and you’ll never know the low/no JavaScript idiomatic to Angular at entry-level.
