Transaction handling is one of the more complex areas of web development. Anytime a user takes any action in the interface which demands a couple of database actions in the backend, then usually you end up having do it as transaction. For a user, everything is either a success or failure. Partial success may be either harmful to the system or doesn’t mean anything to the user. Grails, since it is built on top of Spring and Hibernate, uses their underlying mechanism to deal with transactions. While it may seem confusing in the beginning, Grails actually makes it even more easier.

Clickframes is a new Java Framework. You’ve heard of self-documenting code – Clickframes provides self-coding documentation. From a Clickframes XML spec, software developers can generate fully-functional, enterprise-class MVC code that’s easy to evolve as the project proceeds, and eliminates a lot of the tedious coding usually needed to get the app running and to provide minor changes in functionality.

At CommunityOne, Chris Schalk and I presented our ideas on how to integrate Ajax Push with OpenSocial: Developing Sleek and Collaborative Applications with OpenSocial and AJAX Push. For the dramatic conclusion to our talk, we showed a demo that used ICEfaces Ajax Push to push OpenSocial Activity updates to connected users.

Intuition is a double-edged sword. A blessing and a curse as it were. Intuition is knowing something with a reasonable sense of certainty without any justification for why you know it. It's this inability to clearly explain yourself when acting on intuition that is frustrating to you and those around you. Sometimes people will just trust your instincts but other times they will challenge you. There are many outcomes of such challenges. You may fail to convince anybody of your instincts. But, there are times when the challenge will lead you to a better understanding of your intuition. And that is exactly how I arrived at a simple realization of how performance and scale balanced to build usable, high volume web sites and services.
