What you'll find in the javascript_test rails plugin is that (by default) all it does is set up a framework with which you can test your javascript libraries againt NEW markup, that YOU have to write. I find this highly unrealistic. Only VERY rarely is the javascript in a rails application going to be able to be accurately tested in a 'vaccuum', meaning that the DOM and the JS have everything to do with eachother. Also, you want to be able to test the effects of your rjs templates, most of which will have everything to do with your markup and your application server running. Luckily, there is a better way...

Hey all, this site puts forth little competitions for ruby programmers. It's basically a sandboxed testing environment, with a built in rank/scoring system, so you can pit yourself agains other developers (and even view their code and see how they beat you). Your uploaded code gets evaluated by code length and execution time. I'm thinking this will be fun for the ruby community! Anyway it's still in beta, but now that I've got the basic framework down I plan on expanding it a lot more. Any beta testers willing to give feedback would be appreciated. Also, it's like a code-GAME! Who wouldn't want that?!?

This is a good method I've found to unobtrusively kill a process that runs out of control in ruby, it basically detects if the process is out of control by means of a timeout option, so IF the process is out of control, kill it, but if it's already finished, do nothing.

Hooray! Finally I wrote haml for php four. Since php4 is so much more commonly used than php5, and the only haml parser for php (before today) was exclusively for the lesser-used php5, I have converted it into PHP4, for the enjoyment of the masses! Hooray for the easiness of haml!

I managed to get the Ruby activerecord migrations to work inside of a PHP app. This is gonna save me (and now you!) SO MUCH freakin' time - here's to all you super-agile-ninja ruby developers still working silly PHP jobs.. Now you can subversion a MySQL db (via it's migrations) as well! For those unfamiliar with ActiveRecord, you can use it to keep records of all changes made in your db, which you can later traverse (meaning, undo up to a certain version since the beginning, or go back to the last change you made). Friggin AWESOME for the PHP scene.

I finally wrote a subversion checkout hook in ruby - subversion really needs to patch this, but until then -- for all you rubyists..
