This is it, The JavaFX killer,It is awesome this API. As the title said Forget JavaFX we don't need it, Sorry for SUN but it was a bad move the JavaFX.
The more easy and pragmatic move was to base a declarative Swing/Java2D programming model with Xul, that was the answer and that they could do last year and this year maybe we are all programming with Java Xul. What a waste of money and time.

By the way This applets run very good in my mac with Firefox3 and pretty fast.

JavaFX killer? I doubt it. Just from the web site itself they are focused on something different than JavaFX. Also, remember all the "JSF Killers" that came along? JSF didn't go away because there are enough developers up Sun's butt to keep it around. What I expect to happen with JavaFX is the same thing that happened with JSF. People will write wrapper projects around it to make it actually somewhat usable. SeamFX, FXacelets. :)

Maybe you're right....but the point here is that someone creates something that:
a) actually works
b) is here now
c) in pure Java

Point (c) in particular is what I like.

Wow. I am blown away. I'm running the Java 6u10 plugin in Firefox 3 on Ubuntu, and the applets load fast and the animations are flawlessly smooth. Way to go PlupCore!

It's a Java API, right? So all of the examples could also be written in JavaFX Script?

A bit of a spurious comparison...but I'll vote up because the examples are slick...

It's not about what can be written in JavaFX. Its about what can be written today that works. JavaFX isn't really officially official just yet. And also it is Java, plain Java. No odd language sitting on top of java that has to be parsed in.

But yes, this could be written in JavaFX, Groovy, [insert whatever here].
