To supplement their commercial software, Softshare provides a freeware tool for reading/editing EDI files. If you have to develop an application to process or generate EDI files, this application is a must. I'm a BizTalk Admin and I used this tool extensively to understand the X12 810 Invoice Format so it could be translated and written to a SQL Database. It's also an effective tool for testing your applications, because it makes it so easy to write or modify existing EDI files.
