GE is pioneering a position in the market as a champion for Big Data applications, and this week they stood up in a big way to tell the world that the future is here. In a sweeping announcement, GE covering 14 new applications that have real-world customers, launched a new platform called Predix that will make these types of solutions more accessible to businesses worldwide and capped it off with a report stating this stands to save the economy $15-20 trillion over the next 20 years. In this post, we break down where those savings could come from, and demonstrate that even this number is conservative. Big Data is much bigger.
