Think about this. Who pays your wages, Mr. Java Developer? Clients, or if you’re in a larger organisation , the business folks. Do you think any of them care about Java? Do any of them know what Java is? All they want is to get things done, quickly , and with as few mistakes as possible.

Wow. This has to be the dumbest thing I've read. I do believe Java, as a language, is dying (built in scripting support... all the benefits of the JVM, none of the pain of Java). But Google spreadsheets as the killer (app)? This reminds me of the folks who claimed that email would kill the telephone.

This is a first - a link which made it to the front page and subsequently got more complaints than votes. It is unlikely to get "complained into oblivion" however, because it has so many clicks. In any case, the course this link has taken gives us food for thought.

Ok, Mr. Browne is on crack. Why would anyone need a java developer to 'do' a website for a spreadsheet?
1. Hmm, I think we need to be able to gather which health plans our employees are enrolled in.
2. OK, I’ll throw together a spreadsheet to show people what I want
3. Before I’ll give to our friendly Java developer and let him ‘do’ a website from it.
Soon I’ll just share this on Google.
4. Great , Loads of people are now using it, I’ll just the (Ruby / PHP / Insert other language here) guy to add one or two extra features.
5. Most Excellent. Why don’t we spin this off as a Web 2 company and sell it to EBay??
And what's with everyone marking this a lame? Clearly it is just plain inaccurate.

1. There is 1 (one) Fortune 100 company which uses Excel to do whatever they are doing. It doesn't work very well but suitable.
2. Google made a sharable spreadsheet (which is not even close to MS Excel, think about automation, macros, add-ins).
How the heck it will make impact on Java EE side?
