Like many IT enthusiasts and/or professionals, I am a big fan of O'Reilly books. However, this publisher doesn't seem to be over-excited with Java.

Like any other company O'Reilly does what earns them most money. Java just isn't hot any more, which is not a bad thing for the average Java developer like me. I can do without the nonsensical framework hypes and the ongoing bloat of the language.

Looking at their recent publication list, they haven't had a lot of programming books period in 07 (at least compared to recent years). I think you are reading too much into it. From what I can tell, they have put out more publications on Java than any language except Ruby.
