As software developers why do we get religion so fast when we find a solution to a specific problem. It's our duty as professional programmers to make these decisions with no technology religion to ensure our value judgments satisfy the needs of the business and not simply our desire as programmers to avoid the unknown.

C's cool so long as the files don't come from a source that might put buffer overflows in them.

If you write your code correctly then you won't have buffer overflows no matter what the source files are.
