I'm currently developing a 3-tier application with a rich client front-end. The server-side provides services which are exposed in various ways, e.g. RMI or HTTP. The rich client uses those services to move domain objects in and out of the server. Those domain objects underly certain constraints and must have a well-defined state, and that's exactly what I'm brooding about at the moment. Where to enforce those constraints and who is responsible for deciding whether the state of an object is well-defined or invalid?
