You've made the decision to release your code as "open source". Ok, what does that mean, what is an open source license, and how do you pick the right one?

I recently had to decide on a license for my first Source Forge project. I eventually chose BSD, since it seemed a lot less restrictive, and more likely that it would get used (which to me is the point). I would imagine that individuals and companies are afraid of GPL, and just want some free software or code snippets to mix with proprietary software, with no catches. The duel license sounds like a good compromise between BSD and GPL, I'll have to look into that.
