Mike Mainguy claims to have developed a web application scaffold called Thrust from an xml database schema definition six months prior to the introduction of Ruby on Rails. Writes Mainguy, "I'm not just tooting my own horn," and offers a couple lessons/observations he learned from his dead Thrust framework.

Code generation from a model is an idea that predates RoR, by oh, FOREVER.
