The JavaFX SDK Technology Preview Release has given mainstream developers the opportunity to see the capability and potential of JavaFX. As one that has been enamoured with JavaFX for quite some time, I have been very pleased with the overall reaction from the developer community.

I'll say "yes", but in truth I remain undecided and still a little disappointed by the direction of JavaFX. Hopeful but wary.

David. Can you please be more specific about what direction that you would like to see JavaFX take? This is a community effort, and I'd really like your input.
Thanks,
Jim Weaver

I would have to go dig up my notes (yes, I have some, somewhere). My two biggest disappointments was the coupling with Swing (rather than abstracting the UI layer) and the fact that the timeline appears to be marketing-driven. If I find my notes or remember more I'll drop a note.

David,
The UI direction for JavaFX is a graphical node-centric model, where UI controls are graphical nodes (as opposed to components). This will include layout managers, that are becoming graphical nodes, and will govern the placement of graphical nodes. Based upon your response, this is right in line with your Swing concern.
Regarding the timeline, having been involved in the prioritization of features, I can report that the JavaFX community and Sun both have input into prioritization (of course, with Sun breaking any ties). ;-)
Thanks,
Jim Weaver
