After release of IceFaces 3, we have been getting reports from PrimeFaces Community that IceFaces Ace Components look similar to PrimeFaces. After looking at Ice Ace Components, frankly, we are shocked and disappointed! IceSoft copied PrimeFaces code LINE BY LINE to come up with it’s new set of components named Ace. We are aware that we can’t take any action legally as code is open however we just want to let you know about this. Here is an example of PrimeFaces Panel and Ice Panel as a case study

You have to realize that if you throw something out to the open source ether that this sort of thing can happen. People will fork it, modify it and sometimes unethically change some package names. I think if they make comments in the code that they built it off of PrimeFaces and have an open statement on their site that they mention PrimeFaces as a starting point, you should consider yourself lucky. Some of us developers have caught others ripping off our work and not even a whisper of credit.

It is unfortunately the dark side of open sourcing material. Perhaps it is time you work with IceFaces to see if you guys can come to some sort of agreement. That or take your code out of open source.
